According to the website, the name LUFKIN originates
from ‘love’ – very fitting to the small coffee shop based on King’s Road in
Pontcanna, Cardiff.
LUFKIN is a small, boutique coffee brew bar based in a courtyard in the middle of
Pontcanna, a very pretty and affluent area of the city. I only stumbled across
it due to my work placement, located in the same courtyard but I’m in love and I’ll
definitely be popping by whenever I’m in the area or just fancy a drive. The
coffee shop is a Mr & Mrs business, launched in September 2016. All coffee
beans are roasted on sight and can be enjoyed in the shop or at home.
The shop itself is very small and beautifully decorated, a
very unique and charming setting. The coffee is honestly lush, and although it
takes probably the same amount of time to make as some high street coffee shops
you get the added bonus of being able to chat to the owners and barista – it makes
the whole experience feel a little more special and personal.
Every cup of coffee is perfect with a
delicate design on top - you can be assured that you’ll never be disappointed.
The coffee isn’t too expensive and it leaves you with a great feeling to know
that you’ve supported a local business. LUFKIN also sells homemade cakes,
varying every couple of days – I spied a chocolate & lime cake in there the
other day.
As well as freshly prepared coffee and bags of beans that
you can pick up in the shop, they also offer bicycle delivery. You can order
your bag of beans and they will deliver it by bike every Friday morning
directly to your home or work (no subscription needed). The beans that are
delivered are dependent on what they’re specifically roasting that week (my personal favourite is the Ethiopian blend)
but you can be assured that every bag of coffee will taste amazing. You can
keep up to date with what beans are being roasted in their brew bar on the
LUFKIN twitter page. The bicycle delivery starts at £8!
LUFKIN is a little gem in the middle of Cardiff. If you’re
in the area or come across them at a coffee festival or market I’d highly
recommend you try their coffee, you won’t regret or forget it!
