Clinique Chubby Lash - Black Honey

Ok... first off lets discuss this beautiful packaging - obviously its what's inside that counts but you can't deny that this is one sleek looking mascara. The shiny metal packaging gives this mascara a bit of weight, making it feel a little more luxurious (even though the price tag won't damage your bank balance too much). As well as being beautiful this packaging is also practical - the cap clicks to make sure that its properly shut, meaning the mascara won't dry out quickly.

The actual mascara itself is a nice one and the colour is unique. The aubergine colour is dark enough that it doesn't make your lashes look vibrant red or purple, but it has a subtle enough difference to black that its noticeable. I found the formula to be quite wet when I first got it, but since having it way longer than I probably should have, the formula has dried out slightly and I find it much easier to apply.

The brush is plastic and looks pretty basic with short bristles. I usually prefer a larger bristle brush so that I can achieve loads of volume, but as a plastic brush goes this one isn't half bad. I found the mascara to be lengthening, and with a few layers you could also build up a bit of volume. The plastic bristles allow you to have great control and help separate the lashes.

The shade of the mascara is well suited to the colder months, going hand in hand with the darker, plumy shades in winter. But I don't see the harm in using it during the summer months, especially festival season if you're too nervous to fully commit to bright colours, this is a great, subtle alternative.
